----++> Janich-San's New Icons <++----
by
Simon Janich
1. The Introducing Bit
Welcome to my first colletion of NewIcons!
When I got the NewIcons package by Nicola Samoria a few months ago, I simply
loved it for making my Workbench as colourful and as professional-looking as
it should be. But I *hated* Roger McVey's 'Building Block'-style icons.
So I decided to create my own style of icons, with a more distinguished look.
And after an awful lot of strenous work, here they are!
2. What Do I Need to Enjoy these Wonderful Small Pieces of Art?
(System Requirements)
First of all, you need an Amiga. Just any Amiga will do it, when it's running
under OS 2.04 or better. And then, you need the aforementioned 'NewIcons' package,
which is freeware and should be available from the Aminet, other BBS or some
PD-collections. A hard-disk is recommended.
And that's all you need...other funky gadgets (like graphic boards, cd-drives,
toasters and blenders) might be useful, but aren't required to polish up your
Workbench!
3. How Can I Use these Precious Gems of Graphic to Make my Workbench Look as
Good as Myself?
(Installation)
After the installation of NewIcons, you simply use 'copynewicons' (should be found
in the 'Utilities' drawer on your system-partition) to...er...copy my NewIcons to
your old icon. If you want to use my default icons (which can be found in the
'System/Envarc' drawer), copy them to 'ENVARC:Sys', thus replacing the standard
'NewIcons' default icons. To use my disk icons, you'll have to change their type from
'Tool' to 'Disk' (i.e. with 'IconEdit') and copy them also to 'ENVARC:Sys'.
NOTE: My default icons contain some filetypes, that aren't supported by DefIcons
(at least until now). These are: - def_BMP
- def_dvi
- def_e
- def_PCX
- def_PNG
- def_TIFF
I hope that future versions of DefIcons will recognize these filetypes. Until then,
you'll have to copy them manually...
4. The Things to Come...
Until to today, I neither had the time, nor the nerve to paint icons for *all*
software on my harddisk (which is quite a lot...), but I'm optimistic that some
day I will make it.
So you can expect some more icons for these programs:
* AsimCDFS 3.0
* Photogenics
* DiskSalv
* ReOrg
* SFX
* Wordworth
* Digita Organiser
* Directory Opus
* PageStream
* TypeSmith
* TurboCalc
* Shapeshifter
* and more...
If you like my style and want some similar-looking icons for your own programs,
you can write me:

Don't forget to enclose your ideas for the icons!
5. Distribution
This software is FreeWare. It is freely distributable as long as the archive
remains intact, and only a nominal fee is charged for its distribution.
This software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, either
expressed or implied. By using it, you agree to accept the entire risk as to
the quality and performance of the program.
